Veteran actor Dilip Kumar turns 90
Legendary Indian actor Dilip Kumar turned 90 on Tuesday.
Born as Muhammad Yousuf Khan at Peshawar in Pakistan, he debuted as an actor in the movie Jwar Bhata.
Kumar's career has spanned six decades and over 60 films.
Kumar is the first actor to receive a Filmfare Best Actor Award and shares the record for the most number of Filmfare awards won for that category with Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan.
The Government of India honoured him with the Padma Bhushan award in 1991 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1994 for his contributions towards Indian cinema and nominated him to Rajya Sabha for a term.
The Government of Pakistan had conferred Kumar with Nishan-e-Imtiaz, the highest civilian award in the country, in 1997.
Kumar holds the Guinness World Record for winning the maximum number of awards by an Indian actor.
Kumar, who is known as the 'Tragedy King' of Hindi cinema, had charmed his fans with his performance in numerous films over the years that include-Shaheed, Jugnu, Mela, Ghar Ki Izzat, Aan, Tarana, Andaz, Devdas,Hul Chul, Daag, Mughul-e-Azam, Ram Aur Shyam, Karanti, Shakti, Mazdoor, Duniya, Saudagar, Qila and Karma.
Veteran poet and lyricist Javed Akhtar tweeted: "In my dictionary Dilip Kumar means dignity , depth , sensitivity , subtlety, sophistication and class. Happy birthday Dilip saheb."
