Addressing a press conference here today, State Forest,Sports and Cinema Minister K B Ganeshkumar said the project has been designed to overcome the lack of sufficient sports infrastructure.
The new scheme would enable sourcing of sports talents through the infrastructure being established as part of it, he added.
SMILE Project-2012 comprises various elements like Multi-Sport Play Space, four-lane synthetic track (measuring 100 m), Long jump pit with synthetic runway, 25-m Swimming Pools and High Jump pit with synthetic approach among others, he said.
All these facilities would be of international standard providing users with quality playing surfaces for the first time in the state, he added.
The technical details of the various facilities proposed during the current fiscal year are available in a brochure brought out by the government, Mr Ganeshkumar informed.
