Kerala Assembly adjourned after paying tribute to Gujral

Kerala Assembly was adjounred for the day after paying homage to former Prime Minister I K Gujral, who died at a hospital in Gurgaon on November 30.
Moving a reference motion, Speaker G Karthikeyan expressed deep sorrow over the demise of Gujral. He hailed Gujral as a distinguished parliamentarian and an illustrious leader.
Gujral, who was born in a family of freedom fighters, participated in the freedom struggle and was imprisoned during the Quit India Movement, he said.
Chief Minidter Oommen Chandy said the country had lost a veteran freedom fighter, a great statesman and an able administrator. Gujral served as India's ambassador to the USSR from 1976 to 1980, he added.
Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan said the country had lost an erudite scholar and a distinguished parliamentarian.
Later, the Speaker adjourned the Assembly for the day.
