GKSF general category registrations open
With just days to go before the start of the South Indian Bank Grand Kerala Shopping Festival the number of participants is growing steadily with the general category now open for registrations.
So far more than 4,000 merchant establishments have registered for the Sixth Season of GKSF. Nearly 2,500 outlets are expected to sign up this week alone, an official press release said here today.
General category registration, aimed primarily at small retailers, has witnessed 568 members in the first week. More are expected to join in the coming days.
Businesses and services that register over the next few days will be able to make it into the extensive directory being created for the festival.
All retail outlets, services and businesses signing up for the event will be included in the directory, nearly one lakh copies of which will be printed and distributed widely.
The starter kits of GKSF will be distributed to participants from December 12. The preparations for the inauguration of the festival in Kannur on December 15 are progressing at a rapid pace. Registrations in the premium gold category have been impressive this time. While there were 265 registrations in this category last season, already 455 outlets have signed up for Season Six - the highest for any season of GKSF.
In Idukki, one of the key tourist centres of the state, the growth in registrations has been remarkable. From just 99 registrations in Season Five, the numbers in Idukki have swelled to over 350 so far.
More than 80 outlets have joined GKSF in the small town of Adimali alone, while nearly 25 have registered from the tiny Rajakkad village.
One of the highlights of this season's registration trends is the growing participation of home stays, resorts, and other tourism services. Around 1,000 establishments have registered in the jewellery section, 900 in the textiles category and 800 in the electronic home appliances category.
Handicrafts, antiques, home stays, resorts, spas and tour operators are other categories that have seen a growth in registrations this time.
