England win third Test by seven wikcets; take 2-1 lead in the series
England took crucial 2-1 lead in the four-match series thrashing spineless India by seven wickets on the last day of the third Test at the Eden Gardens here today.
This was England's second consecutive Test win of this tour after they registered a comprehensive 10-wicket victory in Mumbai.
India bowlers gave sparse Eden crowd, who flocked the stadium on this morning, despite knowing the outcome the match, something to cheer by picking up three English wickets before the tourists completed the formality of victory by chasing down 41 runs.
Earlier R Ashwin, whose heroics saved India from the ignominy of an innings defeat, missed a well-deserved century as Jonathan Trott trapped last man Pragyan Ojha(3) on the second over of fifth day's play and ended home team's scond innings at 247.
This left Ashwin stranded at 91, nine short of his second Test ton.
England sikpper Alaister Coook match was set-up the match for his side with a brillinat knoct of 190.
