25 MMSCMD gas expected by 12th five-Year Plan end: Minister
Union Minister of State for Petroluem and Natural Gas Panabaka Lakshmi today said about 25 MMSCMD of natural gas was expected from the Krishna Godavari basin by the end of 12th Five-Year Plan.
In her inaugural address at the one-day conference on Natural Gas and KG Basin, organised by CII Andhra Pradesh, she pointed out that natural gas production in the state of Andhra Pradesh was about 3.7 million metric standard cubic metre per day (MMSCMD), which was about 3 per cent of total natural gas production of 118 MMSCMD.
Crude oil production by ONGC in Andhra Pradesh was 0.305 million metric tonne (MMT).
'The majority of crude oil and natural gas production is from offshore areas and we have one of major natural gas field in Krishna Godavari basin.
'We need more success like this in our country for which our Government and oil companies are putting their best efforts to find more oil and gas in the country,' she said.
Speaking about the importance of hydrocarbon security, the Minister said in order to meet the growing energy needs, the government and oil companies have taken several steps in order to enhance hydrocarbon security of the country through several steps such as increasing domestic exploration of the oil blocks in the country and acquisition of overseas oil and gas assets.
Ms Lakshmi, referring to Rajiv Gandhi Gramin LPG Vitran Yojna which provides cooking gas to rural and low potential areas where LPG connections were less than 50 per cent, said the scheme will operate for village clusters having about 4000 families with a potential average monthly sale of 600 cylinders per month of 14.2 kg, she said.
