Ahead of the launch of Karnataka Janata Party by former Chief Minister, the BJP today suspended two of his key supporters Cooperation Minister B J Puttaswamy and a Lok Sabha MP G S Basavaraj for anti-party activities.
Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar who was here in connection with the Cauvery Monitoring Committee meeting also announced the dropping of Mr Puttaswamy from the Cabinet stating that he had advised Karnataka Governor to drop him from the Cabinet. The Minister had associated himself with the activities of the KJP.
The decision to act against Mr Yeddyurappa's followers was taken after a meeting of the core group of the BJP.
State BJP President K S Eswarappa said the party had acted against KJP Acting President and former State Special Representative V Dhananjay Kumar for anti-party activities.
Similarly, the party had suspended against Mr Yeddyurappa's strong supporter G S Basavaraj from the party and issued show cause notices.
The BJP's decision comes to ward off problems after about 23 legislators and 7 ministers attended the breakfast meeting of Mr Yeddyurappa at Belgaum.
The Minister who were present at the meeting included CM Udasi, Murugesh Nirani, MP Renukacharya, V Somanna, B J Puttaswamy, Shobha Karandlaje and Umesh Katti.
