Protests against the release of the Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu intensified today with Mandya district witnessing a total bandh and the Bangalore Mysore highway blocked at several points.
The Mandya Zilla Raitha Hitharakshana Samiti (MZRHS) has called for bandh as the Karnataka government released of 10,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu following the Supreme Court directions and also against the Cauvery Monitoring Committee's (CMC) direction to release 12 tmcft of water to Tamil Nadu.
Farmers in the district blocked traffic on the Bangalore-Mysore highway and blocked other roads in the district demanding that the government immediately stop releasing water.
Vehicular movement on Kanakapura-Malavalli Main Road, Mandya-Malavalli Main Road, Srirangapatna-Bidar Highway and other roads was paralysed with farmers and activists protesting on the roads.
