X Factor named most influential TV programme for fashion

A new survey has found that the 'X Factor' is the British TV programme that women take the most fashion inspiration from.

'Made in Chelsea' followed in at number two while fashion show 'How To Look Good Naked' took third place, the Daily Mail reported.

Initially, respondents were asked to specify what inspired their fashion sense.

Just a third, 33 percent, claimed to gather fashion inspiration from "magazines/websites/blogs" whilst the majority of respondents, 40 percent, admitted taking inspiration from TV programmes.

Over a quarter of the respondents claimed to turn to their friends when it came to searching for fashion inspiration.

The women who claimed to gather fashion inspiration from TV shows were then asked to specify which programmes in particular they felt inspired by when it came to style.

Just over one third of the respondents who used TV to inspire their wardrobes admitted searching for replicas or exact matches of items worn by the celebrities or people featuring in the shows afterwards.

Bobbie Malpass, editor of MyCelebrityFashion.co.uk, who carried out the study, said: "With Cheryl Cole, Kelly Rowland and this year Nicole Scherzinger and Tulisa on the show, women are clearly not only tuning in to the X Factor for the singing competition, but also to see all the amazing clothes the female judges wear."

"Tulisa and Nicole have been battling it out since the live shows began and the competition is close!

"From head to toe, nothing is left to chance on TV, so make the most of celebrity's TV appearances - it's the perfect opportunity to steal your favourite celeb's style!" Malpass said.

Shopping results backs up Malpass' claims, as sales data from leading online department store, Very.co.uk, show that mobile sales have spiked dramatically throughout the broadcasts of 'X Factor' and 'Strictly Come Dancing' this year.
Viewers are using the time to surf shops from their sofa, and while X Factor might be losing in the ratings, sales are up 48pc more during the ITV show than its arch-nemesis Strictly.

Top ten shows British women turn to for fashion inspiration are:
X Factor - 77 percent
Made in Chelsea - 63 percent
How To Look Good Naked - 61 percent
The Only Way is Essex - 53 percent
Britain and Ireland's Next Top Model - 45 percent
Keeping Up with the Kardashians - 38 percent
The Valleys - 24 percent
Desperate Scousewives - 16 percent
Take Me Out - 11 percent
Geordie Shore - 6 percent
