The Integrated Unreserved Ticketing System (IUTS) counter at Thiruthuraipoondi in Tiruvarur district of Tamil Nadu was reopened for public today, for issuing reserved travelling tickets.
In a release M K Gopinath, Public Relations officer of Tiruchirapalli division of the Southern Railway said the counter will function from 0800 to 1300 hrs from Monday to Saturday.
The IUTS counters functioning in Pattukottai and Thiruthuraipoondi were shut down following the closure of the Tiruvarur - Pattukottai MG section for broad gauge conversion on October 18.
But following protests by various organisations, the reservation counter at Pattukottai railway station was opened within a few days.
The people of Thiruthuraipoondi and surrounding areas have been pleading with the Railways to continue with the IUTS counter in Thiruthuraipoondi railway station to enable them to book reserved tickets for long-distance trains from other parts of the district.
