Ravi Kant for more IIT-industry collaboration
Tata Motors vice-chairman Ravi Kant on Saturday said the IITs could take more steps to attract industries on collaboration.
"They must not only focus towards bachelors but they should look beyond like M.Tech and researches," said Ravi Kant, an alumnus of said, speaking at the PanIIT Alumni Global Conference 2012 here.
The Tata Motors bigwig was among the eminent personalities who shared their views on the topic- "Technical Education and R and D- increasing collaboration between Industry and IITs".
Ravi Kant said: "The eco-system of government, industries and education system is much more evolved..The government encourages and the universities go forward to attract investments. IITs have to do marketing to attract investments," Kant said.
Devang V. Khakhar Director, IIT Bombay, said: "I think for IITs it is important to interact with industries. Without such interaction there cannot be investment in R and D."
Atanu Mukherjee , President of Dastur Business and Technology Consulting, a division of MN Dastur and Company, who was present at the event, said: "R and D requires bold thinking. It needs to start right from the beginning."
The PanIIT Alumni Global conference 2012 started in Kolkata on Friday and will continue till Dec 9.
The PanIIT Alumni Association was formed in 2002 to gather all graduating IITians from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) since 1955 under one umbrella and engage them in initiatives of common interest.
