Veteran CPI leader Venkataraman passes away

Veteran CPI leader U S Venkataraman passed away in the early hours of today.

Mr Venkatraman (84) had also been the vice president of the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishad.

Mr Venkataraman had joined the CPI at the age of 22 and had been leading various trade unions in the city.

He also led the All India Trade Union Congress in the state when he was elected the State General Secretary. He worked as the member of the State Council of Communist Party of India and served in the Education department of the Party. Having a thorough and profound knowledge of Marxism he was an authority on it. He participated in the International Marxist Study School at Moscow in 1970 and had won a gold medal in the debates held there.

The State Committee of The Communist Party of India expresses its deep and heartfelt condolences to the demise of Mr Venkataraman.
