INLD leader arrested; sent to judicial custody
Indian National Lok Dal leader Ajit Litani was arrested by police from Uklana last evening.
He was produced before the magistrate late in the night and was sent to the judicial custody.
In 2007, Litani had led a demonstration of party workers to lodge protest against the murder of a chowkidar by robbers in Barwala market.
The Barwala police had registered a case against Mr Litani on the charge of damaging property and creating hurdles in the discharge of government duty.
According to police sources, Mr Litani was declared proclaimed offender in the case because he did not join the interrogation.
Umed Lohan, district chief of INLD and Raj Mal Kajal, party spokesperson, while condemning the arrest, said the arrest was unlawful and unjustified because Litani was not served any notice or summons in the case before arrest.
