Govt yet to set tourism target
Union Tourism Minister Chiranjeevi on Friday said the government is yet to set a target for tourism for the 12th Five Year Plan.
In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, Chiranjeevi said: "Tourism targets for the 12th Five Year Plan have not been finalized yet by the Planning Commission. The 11th Five Year Plan had set a target of 10 million international visitors by 2011."
"For Domestic Tourism, the target to be achieved in 2010 and 2011 was fixed at 725 million and 812 million, respectively," he said.
The number of Foreign Tourist Arrivals in India during 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 was 5.17 million, 5.78 million, 6.31 million and 5.21 million (January - October, 2012) (Provisional), respectively.
The number of domestic tourist visits to different States and Union Territories of the country during 2009, 2010 and 2011 was 669 million, 748 million and 851 million (Provisional), respectively.
