Haryana to purchase 2000 mw hydel power from Bhutan

Haryana Government will purchase about 2000 mw of hydel power from Bhutan and discussions regarding this have already been finalised at the administrative level.

Stating this while interacting with media persons at Rohtak today, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said that he would visit Bhutan from December 14 to 16 in this connection.

Mr Hooda said that in the coming time, Haryana would not face any shortage of power supply. For this, production of power was being continuously increased in the state.

To further ensure that no power shortage was faced in the state, the agreement for the purchase of about 2000 mw of hydel power would be signed with Bhutan, he added.

He said that four coal based thermal power stations were operating at full capacity in the state. A nuclear power plant of 2800 mw was also being set up at village Gorakhpur in district Fatehabad.

He said that the state government was also considering starting a new scheme under which 22 hour power supply would be given to the consumers who would pay their bills timely.
