Commissioner thank people for maintaining peace during Black Day

Hyderabad City Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma thanked the people for their cooperation in maintaining peace in the city while observing the 20th anniversary of demolition of Babri Masjid today.

Talking to reporters at Charminar Police Station here, the Commissioner said situation in the city, especially the Old city, has remained totally peaceful.

He said although police do not anticipate any trouble tomorrow being the Friday prayers, but it would make elaborate arrangements to maintain peace.

Replying to a question, the Commisisoner said police never stopped anyone from offering prayers at Mecca Masjid and it would never do so in future. He appealed to the people not to believe such rumours.

When asked whether police would allow reciting of 'Salaam' at Chilla-e-Mubarak abutting Charminar, he said it would depend on the situation tomorrow.

The Commissioner said police have enforced some restrictions on the movement of traffic near Charminar only to ensure law and order. However, he expressed confidence that the situation would continue to be normal and peaceful tomorrow.
