Cook unbeaten at 167, England 296/1 at lunch
Alastair Cook continued to grind the Indian bowlers and remained unbeaten at 167 to take England to 296/1 at lunch on the third day of the third Test against England at Eden Gardens here today.
Resuming with their overnight score of 216/1, both Cook and Jonathan Trott began the day's proceeding confidently and England were just 20 runs less than India's first innings total of 316.
The England captain, who was dropped yesterday by Cheeteshwar Pujara at slip on 17, got another life when Ishant Sharma dropped a sitter of his own bowling.after scoring 156.
The lanky bowler created a rare opportunity when he forced the touring skipper to drive the ball straight to him . But he failed to grasp the ball.
Barring this, the right-hander was fluent in his vigil at the crease and denied the home bowlers any opportunity to make a breakthrough.
Trott, struggling with form until now in the series, returned to form with a patient 66 (not out) off 172 balls.
While Ishant and Zaheer did not have any bearings on the Cook and Trott, Pragyan Ojha gave some semblance of discomfort to the duo, but the wicket remained elusive.with Cook and Trott heading for a double ton and a century respectively.
