AIBA suspends Indian boxing federation
After the International Olympic Committee (IOC) suspended the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), now it is the turn of India's boxing association to face suspension.
The International Boxing Association (AIBA) Executive Committee Bureau on Thursday decided to provisionally suspend the Indian Amateur Boxing Federation (IABF), according to AIBA official website.
"This provisional suspension is also due to the fact that AIBA had learned about possible manipulation of the recent IABF's election. AIBA will now investigate this election and especially a potential political link between IOA President, as former Chairman of the IABF, and the IABF election," said AIBA.
The boxing body has several politicians and politically connected people at helm.
While formerly IABF was headed by Abhay Singh Chautala of Indian National Lok Dal, the present president is Abhishek Matoria, who is a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Rajasthan and is also a brother-in-law of Chautala.
Chautala was elected as the president of the Indian Olympic Association, which has been shockingly suspended by IOC.
