The Goa Cabinet today approved a modified Shetkari Adhar Nidhi (SAN) scheme, whereunder government will give compensation to farmers who suffer losses to their cultivated crops and infrastructure caused due to natural calamities and also due to wild animals.
Speaking to media persons here after the cabinet meet, deputy chief minister Francisco D'Souza said that the SAN scheme, approved earlier on February 23, 2011, had not included any losses to crops caused due to damage by wild animals as it was paid by forest department.
The government now felt that all the compensation to crops should be brought under one head and that it may be provided under SAN scheme. Hence, the provision of compensation towards losses to crops caused due to damage by wildlife animals has been deleted by forest department vide a notification dated August 14 this year, he said.
The scale of compensation for the losses to crops or trees shall continue to be the same as per the earlier SAN scheme, Mr D'Souza added.
