MLC Polls: Omar terms coalition victory as cohesion between NC-Cong cadres
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today hailed 'panches', 'sarpanches' and party cadres of National Conference and Congress parties for ensuring thumping victory for all the four coalition candidates in the elections to Legislative Council seats reserved for panchayats.
Mr Abdullah, who is also working president of National Conference, said the overwhelming victory of coalition candidates is heavy jolt to those (PDP leadership) who indulged in malicious propaganda against the coalition and tried their best to create wedge between the workers of Congress and National Conference at grass roots.
"The workers of both Congress and National Conference deserve applaud for giving clear cut message to their detractors that the coalition is as strong at the grass roots as it is at the top level," Mr Omar said while addressing groups of 'panches', 'sarpanches' and party workers of National Conference and Congress at his official residence alongwith winning candidates Dr Shenaz Ganai and Sham Lal Bhagat.
"Your victory is appropriate reply to those (PDP leadership) who remained engaged in propagating the false conception that NC-Congress coalition was not effective and cohesive at the lower level," he said adding that the wholehearted support of 'panches' and 'sarpanches' to coalition candidates has also nullified their (PDP leadership) propaganda that panchayat members have fallen apart from coalition partners.
"They (PDP) tried their utmost to create confusion in the minds of panches and sarpanches and let loose unabated, malicious propaganda in this regard but failed miserably," he said and praised 'panches' and 'sarpanches' for openly vindicating their full faith in the NC-Congress coalition.
The Chief Minister asked the workers not to be complacent with the victory achieved by the coalition in the Council elections and said, "work hard and remain closely associated with each other and with the common people in every area and at all levels." "Your real test will be in 2014," he added and told the workers to show same spirit and determination during the next assembly elections and depict coalition charisma.
Mr Omar also referred to the efforts of Pradesh Congress President Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz and Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad in ensuring the extraordinary victory of coalition candidates in the election of Council seats.
