The Karnataka government should protect the interest of farmers in the Cauvery basin area as they are suffering due to poor monsoon rains, Janta Dal (Secular) leader H D Revanna said today.
Speaking to reporters here he said the farmers in the Cauvery basin were suffering for want of waters and crops are withering in some parts. Though the JD(S) did not oppose the Supreme Court order, the government should explain the situation clearly to the Apex Court as well as Prime Minister Manmohan Singh about the ground reality.
Mr Revanna said the JD(S) would extend all support to the government, but it should keep the farmers interest supreme.
He also urged the government to take an all party delegation to the Centre to highlight the situation in the Cauvery basin.
