Government accords high priority to provision of safe drinking water and provide huge funds to states to make it avilable to everyone in the country, the Lok Sabha was informed today.
In a written reply, Minister of State (Independent charge) for Drinking Water and Sanitation Bharatsinh Solanki said under the National Rural Drinking Water Programme - Water Quality Monitoring and Surveillance component, for which 3 per cent of state allocation is earmarked on a 100 per cent Central share, the states can set up water quality testing laboratories at state/UT, district and sub-division levels whereever such facilities are not avilable.
He also said despite water being state subject, the Centre was helping states/UTs in all possible ways to make available safe drinking water to all.
