RPI volunteers held Attempt to picket CM's residence

As many as 107 volunteers of the Republican Party of India (RPI), including 72 women were arrested when they attempted to picket the residence of Cheif Minister N Rangasamy today.

The RPI vounteers were on a series of agitations stating that injustice was meted out to Scheduled Caste people by providing reservation on rotation basis and wanted change in the pattern of reservation of wards in the local body elections early next month.

They had sought police permission to observe a fast in front of the Chief Minister's residence. But police denied it.

Meanwhile, RPI volunteers led by President Gnanamurty assembled on the Vazhudavur road from where they took out a procession to the Chief Minister's residence. They were stopped midway by the police and arrested.
