Ruling out speculation that metroman E Sreedharan would have no role in the Kochi Metro Project, Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy today made it clear that it would be executed by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation(DMRC), through the leadership of Mr Sreedharan.
Inaugurating the second edition of the Infrastructure Conference-2012 here, he said that the official confirmation about the role of DMRC and Mr Sreedharan had been finalized and the project would be a reality soon.
Stressing the need for the development of infrastructure facilities in the state for the overall development of the state, he said that the government had constituted a company, Kerala Mono Rail Corporation to execute the mono rail projects in Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram.
He said the DPR for the Kozhikode project had already received and the process of land acquisition would start soon. However, the DPR for the Thiruvananthapuram project would be received by December 11.
Pointing out that though the state was far ahead in the fields of education, health and IT, it was far behind in infrastructure facilities when compared with the other states in the country, he said adding that the government had taken a decision to increase infrastructure facilities to drive the state for huge development in all sectors.
Since road development was one of the main factor for any development in the state, the government had already allotted an additional fund of Rs 1200 to the PWD for this purpose in this year.
In his presidential address Kearla Public Works Minister V K Ebrahim Kunju said his department had received a sum of Rs 4692 crore for upgradation and rehabilitation of 1204 km road network in the state.
