20th anniv of demolition of Babri Masjid observed peacefully
The 20th anniversary of the demolition of the structure passed off peacefully in the twin cities of Ayodhya and Faizabad.
More than 10,000 security personnel were deployed in and around Ayodhya where life remained normal.
The markets were closed observing their weekly closure in Faizabad, which recently witnessed communal riots.
Reports said more than 10 marriages were slated today near the disputed structure. Police made barricading arrangements at all the entry points of city.
Policemen were also relaxed as they sat and just monitored the traffic and occasionally checked the vehicles.
While the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) held its main programme at Karsevakpuram to celebrate the day as a 'Shaurya Diwas (Bravery Day)', the Muslims under the banner of Babri Maszid Action Committee (BMAC) hoisted black flag at their mosques and observed it as a Yaum-e-gham (mourning day) to protest the demolition of the structure on December 6,1992.
