Floral tributes were paid to Dr B R Ambedkar on the occasion of his 56th death anniversary here today.
Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy, his Cabinet collegues, Speaker V Sabapathy, legislators and senior officials of the territorial administration were among those who garlanded the Ambedkar statue in the Bharathi park in front of the legislative Assembly.
Former chief minister V Vaithilingam, PCC president A V Subramanian and senior party functionaries garlanded the statue on behalf of the Congress after paying rich tributes to a decorated portrait of Dr Ambedkar at the PCC office, while the AIADMK functionaries led by state secretary A Anbahagan MLA garlanded the Ambedkar statue at Ouppalam to mark the occasion.
Leaders and functionaries of the DMK,CPI, and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal, besides, different Dalit organisations, took out separate processions and garlanded the statue to mark the occasion.
