The inaugural convention of the Karnataka Janata Party, in which former BJP Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa was scheduled to take over the leadership, is likely to be a trial of strength for him though he had asked the legislators and Ministers of the Jagadish Shettar Government to keep away from it.
Mr Yeddyurappa who had been touring widely to muster support for his regional outfit, would be hosting a breakfast meeting for them at Haveri ahead of the convention.
KJP sources told UNI that more than 50 legislators, including Ministers in the BJP government, have expressed support to him.
The legislators supporting BJP have been severely warned by State BJP President and Deputy Chief Minsiter K S Eswarappa that stern action would be taken against them if they attended the convention.
Mr Yeddyurappa had openly stated that he was not interested in destabilising the BJP government and wanted it to run its full course. However at the same time, he had also threatened of dire consequences if the party indulged in witch-hunt and harmed his supporters.
Brisk preparations were on here for the convention.
