It's a victory for my stand for stable govt.:Karuna on FDI vote
DMK supremo and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, whose party is a key ally of the Congress led UPA government at the centre, today said the victory for the Centre on FDI issue is vindication of his view for a stable government.
In a brief chat with newspersons here, he said his party had decided to support FDI with the view that it would ensure a stable government at the Centre.
Asked if his party would press the Centre to announce a policy to ensure the survival of small players in the retail sectors and farmers, he answered in the affirmative.
"My parties MPs and I will be continuously pressing the Cetnre to protect the interests of small traders and farmers", he said.
Mr Karunanidhi said it was only to facilitate a stable government at the Centre thorugh the voting on FDI issue that the DMK had decided to extend its support eventhough it was otherwise opposed to it.
"This view of our party has been vindicated by the UPA government winning the vote on FDI", he observed.
Union Health Minister and one of the general secretaries of the Congress party Ghulam Nabi Azad thanked Mr Karunanidhi for extending his party's support to the UPA.
Mr Azad spoke to Mr Karunanidhi by telephone soon after the victory of the Congress.
