Karnataka government today assured sugar cane farmers that it would enact law to implement State Advisory Price for sugarcane as being done in other states.
Replying to a detailed debate on the issue and in the wake of sugarcane farmers continuing their stir, including in front of the Suvarna Vidhana Soudua here, Chief Minsiter Jagdish Shettar said the government would try to enact necessary law to bring out SAP mechanism during the current six-day session itself. Otherwise it would be taken to the cabinet and an ordinance to this effect issued, he said.
Mr Shettar said the government, which had formed a committee including the farmers, sugar factory owners and officers, was also working out to bring a 'revenue sharing formula' which is currently implemented with success in some sugar cane growing countries.
Under this, the profits from the sugar output will be shared equally shared by farmers and factory owners.
