The damaging of a nameboard of a village stating that it was part of Maharashtra today drew protests from Maharashtra Ekikaran and Marathi leaders in the distrit.
Miscreants had damaged the nameboard of Yellur village which stated 'Yellur, Maharashtra rajya' and was in existence for several years now.
"Karnataka Rakshna Vedike' and many pro kannada organisations urged and appealed the state government and district administration many times. But district administration or state government did not take any action," Kannada organisations alleged.
The Marathi leaders' visited the village and started rebuilding work, creating tense in the village this morning. Police officials visited the spot and prevented any untoward incidents.
Deputy Commissioner Anbukumar and Superintendent of Police Sandeep Patil told news persons that the situation was normal.
