The Chhattisgarh Government today decided to table the Judicial Commission's report -- on the Bharat Aluminium Company (BALCO) Limited chimney tragedy -- in the Assembly's Winter Session commencing on Tuesday.
The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Raman Singh, after a thorough discussion on the report of the single-member Commission comprising Justice Sandeep Bakshi.
The regime constituted the Commission to probe into circumstances leading to the collapse of a 150-m-high under-construction chimney at BALCO's 1,200-MW Korba thermal power plant site on September 23, 2009. Forty persons were killed and several injured.
According to official sources, the Government is likely to also table its Action Taken Report.
Briefing media, the Chief Minister said, "The Cabinet approved a proposal to set up a geo-thermal power plant in Balrampur District's Tatapani. A memorandum of understanding will soon be inked between the regime and the National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd." The Cabinet decided to provide benefit of scholarships and admission in ashram schools, as provided to Scheduled Tribes, to students of five more Scheduled Caste communities pending the Centre's approval for according ST status to these communities.
