The Government is doing its best possible to improve the overall quality of higher education in the country, the Lok Sabha was informed today.
Minister of Human Resource Development MM Pallam Raju said during Questio Hour that the Government had taken note of none of the Indian universities making into the list of the top 200 universities of the world.
''We are certainly worried about it and efforts are on to improve the overall situation,'' he said.
The Government is planning to consolidate the exisiting universities and colleges first by filling up vacancies for teachers and upgrading them to get accreditation from UGC and other related agencies, the minister said.
More research-oriented education was also being promoted in the educational institutions, Mr Raju said.
