Air India improving as efforts on to revive it: Ajit Singh
Employees of the Air India were being paid salaries in time for the past six-seven months and Government was trying to put the ailing airline back on track, the Lok Sabha was informed today.
Minister of Civil Aviation Ajit Singh said during Question Hour that the airline had suffered major financial losses in the recent years and efforts were on to revive it.
"The Government has prepared a turnaround plan and the situation was improving as we were able to pay salaries in time for six-seven months and the backlog was also being narrowed," the minister said.
He said the Government was also planning to set up new airports and improve facilities on the existing ones.
On Agra airport, Mr Singh said he had written to the Uttar Pradesh Government, asking for land so that the airforce airport could be re-developed and be made usable for civil aviation purposes.
Speaker Meira Kumar said the airline should be brought back to its old glory and its employees looked after.
