Barely a day ahead of the 20th anniversary of the demolition of the Babri Masjid, a blanket security cover was thrown over the Southern districts of Tamil Nadu by security agencies.
Police said all places of worship, vital installations, important junctions and crowded places like bus stands were brought under the security scanner, following threat issued by Pakistan based terror groups to avenge the hanging of 26/11 accused Ajmal Kasab.
Armed securitymen were keeping round-the-clock vigil at historic temples like Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple, Sri Dhandayuthapani Temple at Palani Hills, Lord Murugan Temple at Thirupparankundram, Sri Ramanathaswamy Temple at Rameswaram.
Devotees will not be allowed to carry any bag inside the temple premises for three days from December five.
All the entry and exit points into the Southern districts have come under the police scanner.
Similarly, exhaustive security arrangements have been made at the important railway stations and junctions in Southern districts.
