Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today announced various measures to provide a fillip to the fishing trade in the state.
An official release here said the Chief Minister today ordered setting up of 11 fish hatcheries at a cost of Rs 37 crore.
The hatcheries would come up at Bhavanisagar, Thirukambuliyur, Asoor, Thattamanaipatti, Agarapettai, Neydhalur, Thattankulam, Vidoor dam, Vaniyanchavadi, Manimuthar and Lalpet.
She said 11 ultra modern fish auction zones, net spinning centres, drying zones and other facilitis would be created at a cost of Rs 63 crore.
These facilities would come up at Kadapakkam, Samiyarpettai, Serudhur, Muthukooda, Devipattinam, Rochmanagar, Tharuvaikulam, Vivekanandar Colony at Threspuram, Inaiyambuthanthurai, Simon Colony and Kurumbanai.
Ms Jayalalithaa also said a sea food festival would be organised at the Island Grounds in the city this year for three to four days and anounced allocation of Rs one crore for this purpose.
The release said national level fishing companies involved in sea food production, firm which produce fodder for fish and ornamental fish firms would take part in the festival.
