Alleging that Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj misinterpreted a part of Congress President Sonia Gandhi's Ramlila maidan speech, the Congress today charged the BJP with being involved in negative politics.

AICC spokesperson Rashid Alvi told reporters, "Ms Swaraj yesterday misquoted and misinterpreted the part of speech of the Congress President in the Lok Sabha, saying this is only development oriented Government, thus also targetting previous Congress Governments, whereas the facts are different." He said the text of Ms Gandhi's speech was "those who are criticising our Government, had they run such a successful and development oriented Government? Our leadership is our source of inspiration." Mr Alvi said the Congress president had further applauded the party leadership, describing them as the architects of modern India, but the leader of Opposition interpreted it differently.

He said, "There should be space for positive politics and not for negative politics in a democracy."
