It was a privilege to play against Ricky Ponting: Alastair Cook
Showering lavish praise on Ricky Ponting, who retired from international cricket Monday, England skipper Alastair Cook Tuesday described the former Australia skipper as one of the best batsmen he has seen.
Saying that it was a privilege to have played against Ponting, Cook said: "He is an unbelievable competitor. I wish him all the best in his retirement."
Referring to the 2006 Ashes series, the England captain said: "I can't really sum up on what he has achieved. As a batsman alone, he's among the best batters I've seen. We just could not get him out in 2006."
"He hits the ball as cleanly as I have ever seen a cricket ball being hit. As a player of fast bowling, he had all the time in the world," said Cook.
