Zardari demands report on demolition of century-old Hindu temple in Karachi
Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari has directed authorities to submit a report on the demolition of a century-old Hindu temple in Karachi.
According to presidential spokesperson Senator Farhatullah Babar, Zardari expressed concern over the incident and directed the authorities to ensure no community was discriminated against in any manner, reports The Express Tribune.
Zardari reiterated the government's commitment to safeguard the rights of minorities in the country.
Along with the Shri Rama Pir temple, the builder also razed down three or four nearby houses, leaving almost 40 Hindus homeless.
"We are protesting against the injustice by staying out on the streets. We won't leave or move in with our relatives. We will sit on the road till our temples and houses are rebuilt," said Kaali Das, an elder of the community.
