Norway Police charges Indian couple for repeated maltreatment of their child
The Norway Police department has charged TCS techie V. Chandrasekhar and his wife Anupama with gross repeated maltreatment of their child by threats, violence or other wrong.
India on Friday assured all help to the Indian couple arrested in Norway for allegedly trying to discipline their 7-year-old son for wetting his pants.
Reacting swiftly to the request made by lawyer of the Indian couple an officer of the Indian embassy met the husband after getting consular access.
Prosecution proposed a sentence of one year three months for mother and one year six months for father. Judgement in the case on December 3.
Nine months ago, the child is said to have told his teachers in school that his parents had threatened to send him back to India if his 'bed-wetting' did not stop. When the school informed the concerned department in the Norwegian Government and the police, a case was registered against the couple for violation of 'child rights'.
In February this year, the child was taken into custody and spent six weeks with the child welfare department there.
After finding an 'improvement' and with some counselling, the seven year-old was returned to his parents.
In June this year, the couple came to India with Sai Sriram and his younger brother and were enrolled in a school in Hyderabad.
