World AIDS Day will be observed today

Member of the International AIDS society(USA) Dr Kutikuppala Surya Rao said education and more awareness on AIDS was the only tool for prevention of this dreaded disease.

Addressing the media in connection with the World AIDS Day to be observed today, he said yesterday that there were five lakh HIV positive cases in Andhra Pradesh out of 25 lakhs in the country.

He said as per the reports, more than one per cent of the new born babies were HIV positive in Andhra Pradesh.

He suggested that every bride and bridegroom should undergo HIV test before marriage to prevent spreading of HIV positive cases.

He said only 40 per cent of population was undergoing HIV tests while the remaining sixty per cent are avoiding taking the test.

He said Dr.Kutikuppala Surya Rao Hospital and Visakhapatnam government College for women are jointly observing worlds AIDS day today.

He said that 2012 is the 25th year of world's Aids Day being observed by WHO, UNESCO and other organisations.
