BJP's Prakash Javadekar today alleged that the Congress-led UPA government has betrayed the people of Telangana over the issue of a separate Telangana state in Andhra Pradesh.
"In the last three years, more than 50 people have committed suicide for a separate Telangana state. But the UPA government is not listening to them. The UPA is responsible for these suicides," the BJP MP said in the Rajya Sabha during Zero Hour.
He said the then Union Home Minister P Chidambaram had in December 2009 said the process for formation of separate Telangana state has started.
Mr Javadekar said even after three years, the government has not done anything on the issue.
"These three years are years of betrayal. The UPA government is delaying the formation of Telangana state," he added.
The BJP MP demanded that the government immediately initiate the process for formation of a separate state.
