Antony remembers Gujral, says 'former PM was a seasoned and astute politician'
Defence Minister A.K. Antony on Friday offered his condolence at the passing away of the I.K. Gujral, and said that the former Prime Minister was a seasoned and astute politician who dedicated his entire life for the cause of the nation spanning over a period of over seventy years.
" He not only took part in the country's freedom struggle but also contributed significantly to nation building. Never afraid of speaking his mind he was instrumental in coming out with bold ideas for conflict resolution in our immediate and extended neighbourhood," said Antony in his condolence message.
"Shri Gujral rendered yeoman's service in various capacities - as a statesman, as a diplomat and above all, as a thinker," he added.
The Defence Minister has cancelled a banquet which he was to host in the honour of the visiting Korean Defence Minister Kim Kwan Jin later this evening.
The parliament has deeply mourned the passing away of I K Gujral. Both the houses the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha mourned the passing away of Gujral.
Gujral, 92, breathed his last at Gurgaon's Medanta Hospital earlier today after a prolonged illness.
