India face England in their opening WCK-2012 match

Defending champions India have been placed in Pool A along with England, Afghanistan and Denmark in 3rd World Cup Kabaddi Punjab -2012 being hosted by the Punjab Government at different venues of the state from December 1-15.

Traditional rivals and strong contenders Pakistan are in Pool B along with Sierra Leone, Scotland, Italy.

The Pool B consists of Canada, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Norway and Pool D will comprise Argentina, Iran, Kenya and USA.

India, Canada and debutants Denmark have been placed in Pool A in the women's section. England, Turkmenstan, USA and Malaysia have been clubbed in Pool B.

Powerful India will begin their campaign as they take on England on December 5 at Doda (Mukatsar) at 1500 hrs. The hosts' next match will be against Afghanistan on December 6 in Sangrur and complete their league engagement on December 11when they play Denmark 1515 hrs.

Winners of the Asian Kabaddi (circle style) in Pakistan before coming to India, Pakistan will confront Sierra Leone in their first encounter on December 3 at Hoshiarpur. Their second league match is against Scotland at Amritsar at 2030 hrs. Pakistan will face Italy in their last league fixture at Chola Sahib (Tarn Taran) 1500 hrs on December 8.

The Indian women face Denmark in their opening outing in their three-nation league on December 6 at 1330 hrs at Sangrur. The Indian women will then travel to Fazilka where they face Canada at M R Govt. College Stadium, Fazilka on December 9 at 1415 hrs.

In the men section top one team of each pool will qualify for semi -finals (Knock out stage) and in women's section top two teams of each pool will qualify for semi-finals.

The opening ceremony will be held on December 1 at Bathinda.

Meanwhile, the teams have started arriving Iran, Kenya and New Zealand have already arrived and other national teams are on their way and are expected to reach Punjab tomorrow.

Pool A and B teams in Men section will be stationed at Bathinda. Women teams of A and B pool will be stationed at Ludhiana. Pool C and D teams in Men section will be stationed at Jalandhar.

Meanwhile, according to a report, the Indian men and women teams were taken to New Delhi where dope tests were conducted by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA).

Appreciating the steps taken by the organizers to check drug menace in sports, the Indian teams going to Delhi for dope test has raised some controversy as it is contended that other teams will face random dope test during matches. "When one knows that he/she is going for dope test, there is a chance to takes measures to avoid drugs detection," said the report.
