Former minister and MLA from Punganur in Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh, Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy resigned from the state assembly today protesting against continuation of N.Kiran Kuamr Reddy as Chief Minister.
Peddi Reddi, a staunch opponent of Kiran Kumar, had set November 30 as deadline for the Congress high command to replace the Chief Minister.
As there was no indication of leadership change, he submitted his resignation letter to Speaker Nadendla Manohar in his chamber at the Secretariat this morning.
Before quitting from the assembly, Mr Reddy also met PCC President Botcha Satyanarayana and discussed his decision to resign for nearly 15 minutes.
The former minister said he would, however, continue to be with Congress party. His resignation might turn on the heat on the Kiran Kumar Reddy government as it comes close on the heels of the resignation of three MLAs. Their resignation letters are with the Speaker. They have joined the YSR Congress of Jagan Mohan Reddy, who is the son of former chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy whose death in a helicopter crash in September 2010, changing the course of Andhra Pradesh politics.
If these resignations are accepted, Congress's strength in the 294-member Assembly will come down to 149, just one more than the 'magic figure' of 148.
