Near total bandh in 3 dryland districts demanding water supply

A near total bandh was observed in three districts of Karnataka today demanding implementation of Dr Pramashivaiah Report on permanent supply of water to arid districts.

Normal life was affected in Kolar, Chikaballapur and Bangalore rural districts as political leaders, irrespective of party affiliation, voluntary organisations and farmers participated in the bandh.

Business establishments downed their shutters, holiday was declared for schools, cinema halls suspended shows and vehicular movement on National Highway was blocked as the agitators had put up boulders and prepared food for agitators.

Bus services in the three districts were totally suspended.

The agitators detained Kolar-Bangalore train at Kolar.

At Nelamangala, over 3000 people took out a procession demanding supply of water from River Hemavathi.

They submitted a memorandum to Tashildar.

Functioning of the Court was also affected as members of Lawyers Association also participated in the agitation.

Police said that no untoward incident reported so far from any part of the above three districts during day long bandh.
