The opposition DMK has decided to boycott the Tamil Nadu Assembly fete here tomorrow as part of the diamond celebrations.
When contacted the party's MP and official spokesperson T K S Elangovan told UNI that the party was forced to take the decision as 'proper invitation was not extended to the party', for the function which President Pranab Mukherjee, Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah, Chief Minister J jayalalithaa and other high profile dignitaries from across the country are scheduled to grace at the Fort St George.
Referring to apparant 'disrespect' to DMK party supremo and five times Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, Mr Elangovan said 'he is such a veteran member of the House. What respect will we get if we attend', he added.
Meanwhile, Mr Karunanidhi also told newspersons that he and his party MLAs would not attend the function.
"This is a function which is taking place without giving respect to us. We will not participate," he alleged confirming the boycott by his party.
Asked if he would meet with Mr Mukherjee, he said "I have been informed that the President would call on me at my residence."
