Karnataka moots long-term formula to meet distress situation
Karnataka Government today offered a three-point formula to mitigate Cauvery water woes faced by the farmers of the two states distress in the long term "but met with cold response from the riparian state".
The Chief Ministers of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu met here to find a political solution to the decades-old issue of Cauvery water sharing dispute at the behest of the Supreme Court but the meeting, that lasted just 45 minutes, ended up in a failure.
Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar said this three-point formula could bring a solution and requested the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister to consider it to find an amicable and long-lasting solution outside the purview of the Court and the Tribunal.
'We must find ways and means to meet distress situations affecting the two states once in about four to five years,' he said.
