Parliament to vote on FDI in retail: Meira Kumar
Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar on Thursday allowed discussion followed by vote under rule 184 on Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in multi-brand retail.
Kumar announced that there would be a discussion and vote on FDI, saying she hoped that the session would function smoothly.
The date and time of the debate and vote are yet to be discussed.
The Rajya Sabha has, however, been adjourned till noon.
Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath and senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj met the Lok Sabha Speaker earlier today.
The government earlier hinted at having no problem with a vote on retail.
Kamal Nath accompanied by his deputy Rajiv Shukla met Leaders of Opposition, Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley, yesterday.
They, however, failed to persuade the BJP leaders to soften their stand on demanding a vote on the government's decision to allow FDI in retail.
Kamal Nath after the meeting yesterday said the presiding officers of both houses could take an appropriate decision in the interest of running the Parliament.
