Palghar bandh to protest action against police officils
Palghar, the sleepy town in the district which shot to fame on account of the Facebook episode, today observed a total bandh to protest the action against two senior police officials and a Magistrate by the state government.
The District Rural Police control room confirmed that the bandh was total and life had come to a standstill with shops closed and there were no vehicles on the road, including the public transport.
Shiv Sena gave a call for the bandh, which was joined by all parties including the BJP, police said.
In a related development, the Palghar Bar Association has also given a call for bandh in courts today to protest the transfer of the local Magistrate.
It was following the controversy over the posting of a comment in the Facebook by Saheen Dhada and liking of the comment on late Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray by Renu Srinivasan, the police arrested the duo.
The government suspended the Thane District Police Superintendent Ravindra Sengaonkar and the Palghar Police Inspector Shrikant Pingle on the charges of derilication of duties and disobeying orders of the seniors.
On the same lines earlier, the local Magistrate R G BHagde was shunted out to Jalgaon by the Bombay High COurt for his alleged fault.
