Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today announced construction of students hostels in eight districts of the State.
An official release here said, eight hostels for college students and an equal number for polytechnic students would be constructed in Perambalur, Tiruvannamalai, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Sivaganga, Villupuram, Dindigul and Cuddalore districts.
She also ordered creation of 16 warden vacancies of B Ed qualification, 32 cook/assistant cook vacancies and 16 security and helper vacancies to maintain these hostels.
Apart from the above eight backward districts, the Chief Minister had ordered construction of hostels for college students from backward communities at Navalur Kuttapattu in Tiruchichirapalli District, Bodinayakanur in Theni District, Tambaram in Kancheepuram District, besides hostels for school students from backward communities at Murukkodai in Theni district, Vaduvur in Tiruvarur District, Thopputhurai in Nagapattinam District, Vayalogam in Pudukottai District and Arakkonam in Vellore District.
In addition to this, the Chief Minister ordered setting up a hostel for girl school students from backward communities at Periyasamipuram in Tuticorin District and a hostel for girl college students from minority communities at Royapettah in Chennai, Kumbakonam in Thanjavur District and Nagercoil in Kanniyakumari District.
In all, the Chief Minister had allocated Rs 2.59 crore to set up 12 hostels, the release said.
